this year.

BBC Community group award 2026

In February 2026, Valley youth hub was nominated by a local resident of the area for the community group award. In July 2026 we recieved news that we had made it down to the last 4. What a lovely surprise for our staff and showing that our hard work and determination for the children is valued.

On the 04th September some of the staff from Valley Youth hub and also from Sheffield play partnership attended the ceremony in Barnsley. Sat their with excitement and pure ore of the people in the room. We then hear the winners announced is Valley Youth Hub and we nearly cried.

Our staff at Valley Youth Hub are humbled and proud of the work we do for the children of the estate and want to keep striving to make Our estate the best it can be for the future generations of years to come.

Community Impact award

Emma Merrick and the team at Valley Youth Hub have been expanding play opportunities for children on Gleadless Valley. We were delighted to celebrate all of her hard work at the Sheffield Play Awards earlier this year. From summer pop-up play sessions to an inspiring autumn Talent Show, Emma and her team have worked tirelessly to create more opportunities for children and young people in the area.

Our services in Gleadless Valley

Valley youth hub are working hard to bring as many provisions as possible to the valley for the children of the estate.

Keep an eye on our site for up dates, and up and coming activities for all age ranges of children

Our pop up play sessions are run through the spring summer and autumn months, free for all ages of children to attend. These session's you can just turn up and join in. Any child under the age of 8 years old has to be dropped off by an appropriate adult

Holiday Club's

We run holiday activities for children between the ages of 5 to 16 years old. All children are welcome to our holiday activities. We like to bring all age groups together to build a stronger bond and community spirit.

Our sessions are funded partly via haf funding for the children that are in receipt of free school meals, and the children that are not in receipt of free school meals are funded by Valley youth hub cic.

🎮 Youth Provisions at Valley Youth Hub

Our Youth Provisions offer a safe, exciting and supportive space for young people aged 8 to 16 to come together, make friends and enjoy a huge range of activities every week. We’re proud to provide a place where young people feel welcome, valued and able to express themselves.

🎱 Fun, Skills and Social Time

Each session is packed with activities chosen by the young people themselves. They can enjoy pool, darts, ping pong, table football, gaming, cooking, baking, DJing and much more. Whether they want to chill out, get competitive, learn new skills or try something creative, there’s always something for everyone.

🌟 A Place to Belong

Our youth workers create a warm, inclusive environment where young people can build confidence, develop positive relationships and explore new interests. We encourage independence, teamwork and creativity, giving young people the chance to grow in a space designed just for them.

We listen closely to what our young people want, and our programme continues to grow based on their ideas. Their voices shape the activities, the atmosphere and the future of our youth offer — making Valley Youth Hub a place they can truly call their own.

🌞 Holiday Clubs at Valley Youth Hub

Our Holiday Clubs offer a full day of fun, learning and support for children and young people aged 5 to 16 years. Designed to help families during school breaks, our sessions provide a safe, welcoming environment where children can explore new activities, make friends and enjoy positive experiences throughout the day.

🕥 Flexible Hours to Support Families

Holiday Clubs run from 10:30am to 5:00pm, giving parents reliable childcare and young people a full day of engaging activities.
Children with a HAF code can attend a free 4‑hour session from 11am to 3pm, including a meal and a wide range of activities.
For families without a HAF code, we offer affordable options:

Half day: £14
Full day: £28

Up to 80% of these costs can be claimed back through Tax‑Free Childcare or the Universal Credit childcare element, making our holiday provision accessible for as many families as possible.

🎨 Packed With Activities

Every day is different at Valley Youth Hub. Children can enjoy cooking, baking, arts and crafts, outdoor play, games, sports, creative workshops and more. Our team designs each session to be inclusive, exciting and child‑led, ensuring every young person feels valued and supported.

🧡 A Safe, Fun Space for Everyone

Our holiday clubs give children a place to belong, build confidence and try new things. Families can relax knowing their children are cared for by trained, trusted staff who understand the needs of the community and are committed to providing high‑quality, enriching holiday experiences.

🌼 Wraparound Care at Valley Youth Hub

Our new wraparound care service has been created to give families in Gleadless Valley a safe, reliable and nurturing place for their children after school. We know how important it is for parents to have trusted local support, and we’re proud to offer a warm, welcoming environment where children can learn, play and grow.

🚶‍♀️ Walking Bus from Bankwood Primary

Each afternoon, our trained playworkers collect children from Bankwood Primary School and walk them safely to our setting. The walking bus is more than just a journey — it’s a chance for children to chat, explore, and unwind after their school day. Our staff make this time fun, engaging and full of positive interaction.

🍎 A Safe, Supportive Space

Once at the setting, children are welcomed with healthy snacks, drinks and a calm space to settle in. Our team provides a mix of free play, creative activities, quiet areas for homework, and opportunities to build confidence and friendships. Every session is designed to be inclusive, child‑led and rooted in the playwork ethos.

🌟 What Wraparound Care Means for Our Community

This provision gives families peace of mind, knowing their children are cared for by trusted staff who understand the needs of the estate. It supports working parents, strengthens community connections and ensures children have access to enriching experiences every day of the week.

Gleadless Valley Talent Show

Children's Talent show for all the children of Gleadless Valley.

This will be the first of many talent show's. Every child that takes part will receive a medal. There will be 3 independent judges to choose the 1st 2nd and 3rd places. These will get a trophies and a medal.

Last year was our first parade and it was a great sucess for the families of the area. This year we will be bringing the Christmas parade back to the estate, hopefully bigger and better than last year. If you would like to get involved this year for the parade then please get in touch via our contact page, and we shall include you on the list of members for the parade this year

This year we will be bringing along special guest

Santa - giving the first bell of christmas, to all the children.

Grinch - with his cheekiness, we hope he behaves for the children.

Elf on the shelf - Our elf on the shelf loves to dance with the children.

All our guests will be posing for Photos for the families and bringing the joy of christmas to the area.

Through out our activities we love to take trips and outings. We are looking to provide around 3 trips or outings this year.

Priority will go to children and their families that attend our families on a regular basis. But all children on the valley are welcome to take part in our trips and outings
