A Recognition We Share With Our Community

We are deeply honoured and privileged to announce that we have received the Community Group Award 2026 from BBC Radio. This recognition is a tremendous achievement for everyone involved in our work and is a heartfelt acknowledgement of the time, energy and dedication given to supporting the children and families of the estate.

We were especially grateful to be nominated by the lovely Sally Pedley. Sally’s kind words and belief in the work we do mean more to us than we can adequately express. Her nomination highlighted the commitment of our volunteers and supporters, who continue to give their time because they care passionately about creating positive opportunities for local children.

Celebrating Dedication and Compassion

Receiving this award has been a humbling experience. It has reminded us that community work is never about one individual or one organisation. It is about people coming together, sharing their skills and encouraging one another to make a difference.

Meeting so many like-minded people through the award was a particularly meaningful part of the experience. Each person we met was working in their own way to improve the lives of others, without seeking recognition or reward. Their stories demonstrated the strength, compassion and determination that exist within communities across the region.

We are proud to stand alongside people who simply try every day to help others. Their example has encouraged us to reflect on our own journey and to remain focused on why this work matters. Every activity, conversation and opportunity we provide can contribute to a child feeling valued, included and supported.

Continuing Our Commitment to Local Children

Although this award is a significant milestone, it is not the end of our journey. We will continue striving for the children of Gleadless Valley and working towards our long-term goal of making the estate fully inclusive for every child.

Inclusivity means ensuring that children can take part, express themselves and access the support and opportunities they deserve. It means listening to their voices, recognising their individual needs and creating an environment where everyone feels they belong. We know there is still work to do, but this award has strengthened our determination to continue.

Thank You for Believing in Us

We would like to thank Sally Pedley for the nomination, BBC Radio for this wonderful recognition, and every volunteer, partner, parent and supporter who has contributed to our efforts. Most importantly, we thank the children, whose enthusiasm and potential inspire us every day.

This award belongs to the whole community. We accept it with gratitude and humility, and we will carry its encouragement forward as we continue working for a brighter, more inclusive future for the children of Gleadless Valley.
